The Image after Strathern: Art and Persuasive Relationality in India’s Sanguinary Politics.Jacob Copeman & Alice Street - 2014 - Theory, Culture and Society 31 (2-3):185-220.
Publicly-enacted blood extractions (principally blood donation events and petitions or paintings in blood) in mass Indian political contexts (for instance, protest or political memorial events and election rallies) are a noteworthy present-day form of political enunciation in India, for such extractions – made to speak as and on behalf of political subject positions – are intensely communicative. Somewhat akin to the transformative fasts undertaken by Gandhi, such blood extractions seek to persuade from the moral high ground of political asceticism. This (...)

Social Theory after Strathern: An Introduction.Alice Street & Jacob Copeman - 2014 - Theory, Culture and Society 31 (2-3):7-37.
Taking its cue from the articles in this special issue, this introduction explores what value a critical engagement with Strathern’s work might have for the social sciences by setting such an engagement in motion. It argues that Strathern’s writings are a particularly fruitful starting point for reflecting on our assumptions about what exactly theory might be and how and where it may be made to travel. Through the juxtaposition of articles published in this special issue and Strathern’s writings on Melanesia (...)

Not only laboratory to clinic: the translational work of William S. C. Copeman in rheumatology.Michael Worboys & Elizabeth Toon - 2020 - History and Philosophy of the Life Sciences 42 (3):1-27.
Since the arrival of Translational Medicine, as both a term and movement in the late 1990s, it has been associated almost exclusively with attempts to accelerate the “translation” of research-laboratory findings to improve efficacy and outcomes in clinical practice. This framing privileges one source of change in medicine, that from bench-to-bedside. In this article we dig into the history of translation research to identify and discuss three other types of translational work in medicine that can also reshape ideas, practices, institutions, (...)

    Introduction: Blood Donation, Bioeconomy, Culture.Jacob Copeman - 2009 - Body and Society 15 (2):1-28.
This article explores nationalist interpretations of blood donation activity, examining how some Indians read integrative messages into the practical procedures through which blood is donated and distributed. The first post-Independence Prime Minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru, proclaimed the need for `national integration' as a bulwark against a myriad of linguistic, caste and ethnic agitations that threatened to disrupt the unity of the newly formed nation-state. This article shows that a striking manifestation of the Nehruvian ideology of national integration possesses a (...)

    Renominative logics with extended renomination, equality and predicate complement.Nikitchenko M. S., Shkilniak O. S., Shkilniak S. S. & Mamedov T. A. - 2019 - Artificial Intelligence Scientific Journal 24 (1-2):34-48.
A new class of program-oriented logical formalisms is investigated – renominative logics with extended renominations, equality predicates, and predicate complement composition. Composition algebras and languages of such logics are described; their semantic properties are investigated. For these logics, a number of logical consequence relations are proposed and investigated, in particular, the logical consequence relations with undefinedness conditions. Properties of these relations form the semantic basis for further construction of sequent-type calculi for the proposed logics.
